The sun rose sending shards of light across their slumbering bodies wrapped in each other arms. His life drifting into hers and her life drifting into his.

Wanda prepared a Sunrise Breakfast of salmon smoked over apple and hickory and eggs from the local farm. Kate Bush’s Red Shoes album was playing ‘eat the music’.

Breakfast was served on a pale blue table cloth to reflect the colours of this dish. Roqué dressed for work, Wanda wore only a pretty red negligee and a cheeky smile.

The dish was reminiscent of their trip to Madeira where they had stayed in a friend’s villa and once they had taken breakfast at Reid’s Palace Hotel in Funchal.

They had sat facing the Atlantic Ocean and tropical gardens and were treated to a veritable waterfall of exotic fruit and a buffet so expansive it was breakfast heaven. High hat chefs served eggs of every kind and of course a glass of crisp dry sparkling rose.

Drinks match – freshly squeezed orange juice.

For 2 lovers.

Get on with it…

It is important to get a plan going for this as when you have the eggs cooked it will be too late to do other jobs. Set out 400g of the finest smoked salmon you can afford. Make sure it’s cut wafer thin.

Take a 9cm diameter ramekin and line it with cling film and then with smoked salmon making sure all the inside is well covered. Trim the salmon around the top with a knife or scissors. With the remaining salmon create sunbursts big enough to fill the outer edges of the plate when the ramekin is centred.

Prepare a warm breakfast plate. In a pan heat a knob of butter and add 6 free range eggs well beaten (!) and a dash of Tabasco. Heat the eggs gently stirring all the time with a wooden spoon. When the eggs begin to set remove them from the heat (they will go on cooking).

Pack the eggs into the ramekin and holding the plate upside down lower it onto the ramekin and then turn it over. Remove the ramekin and the cling film, lay out the starbursts around the centre, add 2 wedges of lemon & serve with a tomato skin rosebud & sprigs of parsley. A dish for lovers to share.
